WE MADE MY FIRST GOAL!!!
45 children are no longer dreaming on the floor.... they have beds! I want to share some feel good stories from families who have received beds so far.
A letter was sent to me the day after a family with 5 children received beds. She wrote:
"Please express my gratefulness to all the teachers who have helped and supported me as a single mother. I couldn't do all this on my own and without your support, devotion, and flexibility to work around my families needs. You all have taken the time to know us individually as people and as a family. You all have put a positive impact not only on my children but on me as well. I didn't know how supportive you all really were until last week when you came together and helped my kids have something to lay on at night. They thought it was Christmas. That night i looked in on them and they were all sleeping peacefully and for that i am so grateful...Thank you for being supportive."
A child in my room who is 7 years old said to me, "Mrs. Baxter! I slept by myself for the first time ever last night!" I asked, "How did it feel?" He said, "Awesome, I actually had dreams!"
A 5th grader came up to me the day after she received her bed. She walked up to me, squeezed me tight for about 10 seconds and whispered 'thank you.'
I told a child in my class I was going to his house to give him and his siblings beds. He yelled out to the class, "Dudes! I am getting a bed, a bed of my own! Mrs. Baxter is taking me a bed!!!!" I asked him the next night how he slept, he said, "I slept so good I didn't want to get up! I was snuggled right in!"
A 5th grade student brought her letter back to me. She handed me the letter and was giddy. She said, "i want to see the bed!" So I took her to show her the two Snuggle Kits I had ready for her and her brother. When she saw them she had a smile from ear to ear. She felt the blanket and said, "I can't wait to get this home!" I asked here where she was sleeping now, and she said, "Well, the floor, but not any more!"
Thank you to all who have helped make this possible. I have started the IRS process. With the help of my brothers generous donation, I hired someone to fill out my 1023 application to get a Tax ID number. The application will hopefully be done next week, and then I send it to the IRS. The approval can take 2-8 months, I am praying for 2 rather than 8:-)
My next goal is to find out how many beds are needed through out my district. I want to have the number I need, so over the summer I can contact families and continue my deliveries. Thank you again.
